Varjo XR-1 Developer Edition has quickly become the most demanded mixed reality product among professional users. Blending real and virtual content into a seamless experience is one of the key challenges for developers. Varjo has pushed the envelope to enable true immersion for mixed reality with video pass-through technology. To further bridge the gap between the real and the virtual, Varjo was the first company in the world to demonstrate real-time chroma keying for mixed reality in March 2020.
Varjo launched real-time chroma keying as a new software feature for the XR-1 devices, allowing Varjo’s professional users to reprogram reality effortlessly. 20/20 created the launch film together with Varjo’s R&D team, showcasing to the whole industry how virtual and physical can fully merge for the first time ever.
Varjo sets the new standard for mixed reality by introducing the real-time Chroma Key & Varjo Marker features that enable absolute immersion of physical objects inside virtual worlds – and vice versa. The film is all about Varjo’s R&D team and the groundbreaking technology that they were able to develop and deliver. We wanted to showcase the technological aspect in a cinematic and inspiring way, but the main heroes of the film were Varjo’s spokespeople and the story they had to tell. The chroma key film mixes real and virtual content seamlessly together in an impactful way, showcasing both the technology and the experts from the R&D lab in a totally new environment.
With the new chroma key feature for mixed reality, enterprise customers can seamlessly integrate virtual and real worlds, interacting with photorealistic virtual content as they would in real life. Imagine sitting in a replica of a plane cockpit and being able to look outside and see yourself flying over Tokyo, New York or Calcutta. Or imagine sitting in a car and being able to replace the interior with designs that are not yet reality, changing them with a click of a button and interacting with your colleagues while doing it. Or holding a 3D printed object in your hand and ‘dressing’ it instantly to look like a material-finished product.
Varjo´s launch was noticed in all relevant VR/XR industry news. Over 50,000 video views and hundreds of demo requests.
“Varjo has jumped out front as a leading MR HMD supplier. The quality of the video mixing while wearing the HMD is the best we have seen.”
